The Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College, Calicut has been in the forefront of the educational scenario for 133 years. We have been providing the invaluable gift of quality education to generations of students who have proved their merit as achievers occupying key positions in society. We are grateful to the Zamorins of Calicut, our patrons, for locating us on this lofty green ambience and passing on a tradition of high moral and intellectual character.             Our Great Founder: H.H.Manavikraman Maharaja Bahadur K.C.S.I., F.M.U

The history of this institution extends back to 1877 when the Zamorin Raja of Calicut H.H.Manavikraman Maharaja Bahadur K.C.S.I., F.M.U started an English school to impart English education to the young members of the Zamorin’s family.  Over a century, it has grown to a leading centre of higher education, which offers UG and PG Courses in a variety of disciplines to satisfy the requirements of the academic community in the Malabar region.  Important milestones in the evolution of our institution are presented below:

  • 1878 - The institution was named as “Kerala Vidyasala” and was thrown open to the Hindu boys of all castes.
  • 1879 - Got affiliated to the University of Madras as a second grade college.
  • 1900 - The institution was renamed as ‘The Zamorin’s college’ in recognition of the Zamorin Raja’s role in promoting the institution.
  • 1904 - Constituted a board of management for the good governance of the college.
  • 1955 - Shifted to the present location at Pokkunnu, 9 Km. east of Calicut railway station.  The new 92 acre campus was established with financial assistance from Guruvayur temple Devaswam and hence the institution was
  • 1957 - Got affiliated to the University of Travancore which became the University of Kerala in 1958.
  • 1968 - Affiliation transferred to the newly formed University of Calicut.
  • 1981 - Renamed as “The Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College”.
  • 2004 - Accredited with B ++ by NAAC.
Infrastructure & Academic Development:

After shifting to the present campus in 1955 continuous expansion of infrastructure facilities and academic services have been undertaken.
