The Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College, Kozhikode is one of the oldest institutions in Kerala which has been imparting quality education to generations of students since 1877. In January 2011, we have been re-accredited at B Grade by NAAC.
Our mission seeks to provide the students with enriching educational experiences through quality service and a positive ambience to enable them to rise towards excellence as responsible social beings. Our student strength is 1650, strength of permanent faculty 80, ad-hoc faculty 5 and non-teaching 30. There are 16 departments of which eight offer PG programmes.The majority of the faculty and students are women. We follow the University regulations for admission. Our admission cut-off percentage for students is 65% for Science, 67% for Humanities and 74% for Commerce in the undergraduate courses. Special efforts are made to cater to diverse needs by identifying the differential requirements of the students and addressing them through inclusive practices. Our campus spans 92 acres of greenery on a hillock. On the academic front, the infrastructural support of the institution includes 16 full fledged departments with computers, a sufficient number of class rooms, 7 laboratories, a Computer Centre, an Animal House, botanical and medicinal gardens, a Research Center, a Career Guidance Centre and a Yoga Centre. For co-curricular and extra curricular activities we have a spacious Auditorium, two Open Air Stages, a Health and Trauma Care Centre, a big playground, a Pavilion with changing rooms, an Indoor Games Room, Courts for different games and a gymnasium. Other facilities include a Canteen, Ladies Centre, Boys Dining Hall, PNB extension counter, a Post Office, a Co-operative store, two hostels, recreation room for staff, common room for lady staff and a firing range. The landscape is dotted with statues which foreground our artistic leanings. Our learning resources include a well equipped library with over 64000 books, 70 journals and 102 periodicals, computers with internet access and power back-up. The innovative practices of the institution have been devised to ensure quality in education. We move forward by reinforcing our strengths and tackling our weak areas by adopting the problem-solving method. Learning opportunities are made available to the students to help them face the challenges of a globalized world.
